Chris Mier

Managing Director, Analytical Services Division

Chris Mier is the Chief Strategist and director of the firm's Analytical Services Division (ASD).  The ASD has five full-time professionals and is one of the largest analytics groups dedicated to public finance.  Under Mr. Mier’s direction, the ASD has built two proprietary option valuation models, as well as econometric models to forecast SIFMA, municipal bond volume, and other variables of interest.  The ASD statistically analyzed the Build America Bonds market, providing valuable information to investors and issuers alike.  Mr. Mier also provides analytics and commentary on the economy, monetary policy, and a variety of public finance issues.

Prior to joining Loop Capital, Mr. Mier was an institutional Portfolio Manager in the Municipal Bond Department at MFS Investment Management, where he was also on the Duration Committee. In addition, he has served as a Portfolio Manager of numerous municipal funds at Scudder Kemper Investments, prior to which he held several posts at Comerica Bank in Detroit, including credit analyst, portfolio manager and trader in the Funds Management Department.

Chris was voted "First Team Sell-side Strategist" for 2010 and 2011 by Smith's Research and Gradings based upon a survey of over 2000 buyside clients.  Smith's also awarded him "Second Team Director of a Research Department."  Mr. Mier speaks regularly at industry events.  He was the Keynote speaker at the National Federation of Municipal Analysts annual conference in 2009.  He has appeared on panels for the Government Finance Officers Association, Municipal Analysts Group of New York, Chicago Municipal Analysts Society, and many others.

Mr. Mier holds a Masters of Management in Finance from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Michigan. He also just received his Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2009.  He received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the AIMR in 1992. He also holds Series 7, 24, 53 and 63 licenses.
